Hermès’s gold hardware is generally 18K gold-plated; only a few special or custom-order pieces might be 24K. The base material for the hardware is typically brass or a similar copper alloy, which is then plated.

The key here is the thickness of the electroplating. Shebag also uses 18K gold, because 18K gold provides excellent hardness, which helps prevent scratches, and it allows for various color finishes.

Shebag’s electroplating thickness is identical to that of Hermès bags. Although the cost is slightly higher, it provides superior wear and rust resistance.
