Chanel’s shoes are much cheaper than their bags, possibly because they are considered consumables, even though the same quality of leather is used. This also illustrates that the ratio of raw material cost to the final price is completely different for bags and shoes; the price of Chanel bags is intentionally inflated by the brand.

Chanel commonly uses leather supplied by top-tier tanneries in Italy and France, such as Goatskin, Lambskin, Calfskin, and Patent Leather. Each batch of leather undergoes multiple screenings for grain uniformity, color consistency, and supple elasticity.

The soles are mostly made of Italian genuine leather (Leather Sole) or anti-slip rubber (Rubber Sole). Some high heels feature an extra layer of wear-resistant rubber on the outer leather sole to extend their lifespan.

Chanel’s shoe lasts (楦型, the mold) have a classic French fit, meaning they are snug across the instep and slightly tapered at the toe. This ensures an elegant silhouette while maintaining comfort. Some classic shoes (like the two-tone ballet flats) have a slight “toe spring” (upward curve at the toe) in their design to reduce pressure on the forefoot when walking.

High heels mostly use Blake or Cement construction (a combination of gluing and internal stitching). Sneakers and loafers often use Blake Rapid construction to enhance flexibility.
