Recently, the Shebag workshop produced a new batch of Chanel belts crafted from lambskin leather. Chanel is a women’s brand, so it doesn’t require the high-tensile cowhide often used in men’s belts.

The logo on this belt comes from the iconic Chanel 19 bag, and it looks stunning. This is considered one of Chanel’s most classic belt designs, as the brand doesn’t produce many belts—Louis Vuitton and Hermès are far more prolific in this category. Hermès’ slim belts, for example, are also timeless classics.

This article focuses on Shebag’s craftsmanship in recreating the Chanel belt.

Lambskin is renowned for its exquisitely fine texture, supple softness, delicate sheen, and microscopic pores—making it one of Chanel’s preferred materials for luxury handbags and belts. For belts, Chanel selects hides of balanced thickness and integrity, free from scars, cracks, or visible blemishes. The tension and elasticity of the leather are carefully considered, since a belt must retain its shape and contour even after repeated fastening and stretching.

During stitching, high-durability nylon or polyester thread—sometimes waxed—is used, either by machine or hand, to ensure tight, clean seams. The edges are pressed and sealed to prevent fraying, and since belts undergo constant pulling, stitch density and strength are essential to longevity.

In the punching phase, where the belt holes are created, precision is critical. The edges around each hole are finished smoothly, sometimes reinforced with metal eyelets or rings for added durability. The distance, number, and placement of holes are all designed for both aesthetic balance and functional comfort.

Though small in size, a belt is a demanding piece to perfect, and Shebag places the highest emphasis on quality and detail.
